Deutsch Mit Leo is a Telegram bot (@DMLeobot) and a website (dml.boteland.com) that help you learn German from videos, audio and texts. This page explains what data we collect, why, and what you can do about it.
What we collect
- Telegram account: your Telegram chat ID and username, when you use the bot.
- Google account: if you sign in with Google, your Google account ID, email address and name.
- What you send: YouTube and Instagram links, files you upload, and German texts you send for a grammar breakdown.
- What we create for you: transcripts, grammar breakdowns, your word list and your progress on it (known words, words to repeat later).
- Login and usage data: one-time login codes (stored only as a hash), session tokens, and how many transcriptions you used each day.
How we use it
Only to run the service: to transcribe the media you send, build your vocabulary list, show it to you on the website, log you in, and enforce daily usage limits. We don't sell your data, show ads, or use analytics or tracking tools.
Google user data
When you sign in with Google we request only your basic profile (account ID, email address and name). We use it solely to identify your account and log you in. We don't share it with anyone, use it for advertising, or use it to train AI models. Our use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Services that process your data
- Telegram delivers messages. Media from your links and files you upload are also kept in a private Telegram channel, so the same media doesn't have to be fetched and transcribed again. Media from links is never sent back to you or anyone else.
- Google Gemini API transcribes media and produces grammar breakdowns, so the media and texts you send are passed to Google for that purpose.
- YouTube and Instagram are contacted to fetch the media behind a link you send, so it can be transcribed.
- Google Fonts serves the website's font, so your browser contacts Google when loading the site.
What other users can see
Your account, word list and progress are private to you. To save cost, transcripts of the same media are reused between users, and example sentences in the shared dictionary come from transcripts and texts users sent. Don't send private or personal content you wouldn't want to appear as an example sentence.
Cookies and browser storage
The website sets two cookies to keep you logged in, and a short-lived one while you sign in with Google. It stores your filter preferences (like the CEFR levels you picked) in your browser. Nothing is used for tracking.
How long we keep it
We keep your data while you use the service. Login codes expire after 5 minutes and sessions after 30 days of inactivity. You can ask us to delete your account and all its data at any time.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, a correction, or its deletion by emailing arshamalh@gmail.com. You can also revoke the website's access to your Google account at any time in your Google account settings.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
